Iranian wrestlers win 1st schoolboys Asian wrestling c’ships

TEHRAN, Aug. 04 (MNA) – The Iranian schoolboy wrestlers have clinched both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling titles in the first edition of ‘Schoolboys Asian Wrestling Championships.’

Two Iranian Greco-Roman and Freestyle teams were crowned after gaining twelve gold medals, one silver and seven bronze medals.

The Iranian schoolboys won Greco-Roman title with 220 points, followed by teams from Kazakhstan, India and Kyrgyzstan with 194, 154, and 130 points, respectively.

Milad Valizadeh, Mohammad Hajivand, Ali Hajivand, Saeid Esmaeili, Hojjat Rezaei, Ahmad Salah-Doost and Abolfazl Paiyedar at 38, 41, 44, 52, 62, 75 and 85 kg collected 7 Greco-Roman gold medals, while Mehrdad Mazhari, Danial Sohrabi and Alireza Zahir Shahabadi at 48, 57 and 68 kg grabbed a bronze medal each.

In Freestyle division, the Iranians grabbed five gold, one silver and four bronze medals to win the title with 206 points, followed by the teams from Japan, India, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with 180, 169, 151, and 100, respectively.

Ebrahim Khoari, Mohammad Reza Shakeri, Seyyed Amir Mahdi Hosseini, Seyed Reza Hashemi and Mohammadmobin Azimi at weights of 38, 41, 68, 75 and 85kg collected 5 gold medals in Freestyle contest, Erfan Ansari grabbed Iran’s only silver at 44 kg and Amir Hessam Mohebbi, Ali Kaboodtabar, Ali Salimi and Shayan Mirbak in weights of 48, 52, 57 and 62 kg won 4 bronze medals.

The first edition of ‘Schoolboys Asian Wrestling Championships was held in the Iranian city of Karaj, near capital Tehran.

The competitions kicked off on August 03 and lasted for two days.

Some 11 Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams from Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Jordan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Syria, Singapore, Turkmenistan and Iran competed at 10 various weights in the tournament.
